The 14 participating teams have been divided into two Cricket World Cup 2011 groups; teams in Group Aand teams in Group B. The Teams in Group A and Teams in Group B are listed above:The teams in Group A and teams in Group B will face each other once and the top 4 teams will qualify for quarter finals. The Cricket World Cup 2011 groups will play on a format identical to 1996 World Cup that will ensure that each team plays at least 6 matches even they are out of the tournament early.
The first match will be in Bangladesh between the Cricket World Cup 2011 groups B teams India and Bangladesh. Both the countries are hosting the ICC World Cup 2011 groups and Bangladesh is for the first time Co Hosting a Cricket World Cup. The final match will be in Mumbai between qualifying Teams in Group A and Teams in Group B.The Cricket World Cup 2011 groups have ten member teams which automatically qualify for the World Cup and they are:
